has announced that Sherry-Lehmann has automated its store level customer order
processing and fulfillment with the PowerHouse Mobile Point of Sale solution.
The opening of their new store
and increased sales required Sherry-Lehmann to find a means to automate customer
order taking and immediately know whether the inventory was available in their
on-site state-of-the-art wine cellar or nearby warehouse.
The company was already using
PowerHouse/WMS to manage over 950,000 bottles of wine stored in the onsite wine
cellar and in their Brooklyn warehouse, but the
classic paper and pencil method used of taking customer orders for nearly a
century just couldn't meet service level expectations.
In Sherry-Lehmann's new store,
as in the old location, only select bottles from the inventory are on display. Orders taken on the floor are sent to
the wine cellar to be fulfilled. But
that's where the similarity ends.
In the original store, sales
staff filled out customer store orders by hand and literally dropped them to the
cellar staff to fill, without even knowing for sure whether the items they just
ordered were available inventory.
Today with the implementation of
PowerHouse Mobile Point of Sale, sales people on the retail floor carry PDA's
that allow them to provide premier level service.
Sales people are now able to use their PDA's to access inventory levels
for both the wine cellar and the warehouse enabling them to better assist their
customers. Once the customer has made their choices, their orders are instantly
placed for fulfillment. But the
improved buying experience doesn't end there.
Because the entire order has been electronically captured on the floor
there is no need to put customers through a typical checkout line. The order is simply retrieved from
the PDA, showing all the wines ordered and delivered, making the final purchase
nearly automatic.
