Melbourne, VIC, Australia - The King Island Company incorporating Butterfields Specialty Foods Pty
Limited and King Island Dairy Pty Limited have chosen TallShips
Solutions innovative PowerHouse Warehouse Management System to achieve
full batch trace-ability. The company, well known for their premium
quality cheeses, has grown dramatically over the last 10 years with
sales volumes increasing from $3 million to $50 million per annum and
being able to keep track of stock movement through a third party
distributor is essential.
The King Island Company are proud producers and distributors of 300 to
400 premium products including brie, cheddar, cream, smoked salmon,
mussels, gourmet pate, feta cheeses and a number of imported cheeses.
These products are distributed by Butterfields to chain retailers and
independent food retailers encompassing delicatessens, markets, hotels
and restaurants.
Keeping track of all these product deliveries is vital. The King Island Company as a group has always been at the forefront, utilising
technology to make their operations more efficient and to ensure a high
level of customer service. They have for around 8 years been utilising
Telxon hand held units to process orders. The last 2 years they have
incorporated mobile phones speeding up and automating the task. Once
again by selecting PowerHouse, one of the most sophisticated and
innovative warehouse management systems on the market today, they are
taking advantage of the benefits that the latest technologies and
systems can offer them and their customers.
Mr Frank Di Giulio, MIS Manager for The King Island Company, said, "The
system we were using did not allow us to trace products from the factory floor right through to the customer and we wanted to be able to achieve this."
"We also wanted to improve efficiency and inventory control, reduce
product handling and utilise our resources better as well as maintaining a high level of customer service. We believe this is possible through PowerHouse."
As for PowerHouse itself, Mr Di Giulio said that the fact it was an
international product proven in large overseas organisations and had all the technology capabilities they required made it a good choice.
"PowerHouse runs on an NT server and has a sophisticated inbuilt
interface program both of which are vital in being able to talk to our
host system."
