Restocking

Restocking can be initiated in several ways in a PowerHouse system. Restock tasks can be generated automatically throughout the day or upon a manager's request based on min/max levels of products in restockable locations.

Restocking tasks can be driven by order processing wave requirements and the system can be configured to bring all of the required quantity for the wave forward at one time, or just enough to fill the location with the rest held in reserve until the location is empty enough to hold more.

Regardless of the manner in which the restock requests are generated, PowerHouse will fill the restocks using the steps defined by the administrator during system setup. PowerHouse can evaluate many criteria, such as the location the restock will be delivered to, whether FIFO is being used, which location is already most empty (to keep clearing out locations), and many other factors when determining the best source location for the restock.

The system can also be instructed to over-restock a location. If orders on a wave require a combined total of 5 cases of product and the primary picking location only holds 2 cases, the system can be configured to direct a worker to deliver all 5 cases to the location despite the fact that they won't fit, or it can be configured to deliver 2 cases and then another 1 or 2 cases when enough product has been picked for orders to allow another case to fit. The system can also be configured to restock large quantities of product to 'floating' or 'virtual' pick bins. This is especially helpful for new items or items that have been out of stock for a while and have a large immediate demand that outstrips the capacity of the standard picking locations.

Workers on the warehouse floor will be directed by the system to travel to the restock source location. Once there, they will either pull a full pallet or the system will display how many cases to put on a carrier pallet. If the restock is a carrier type restock, the system will continue to direct the user to additional locations to put other items on the pallet. When the stock has been pulled, the system will direct the worker to the destination locations and will have them confirm that the products were placed into the correct bins.
