Work Direction

Directed work logic is central to the PowerHouse philosophy. While we have also provided the means to perform tasks in such a manner that the user simply tells the system where they put something or using paper tickets to pick from, allowing the system to direct the users through their tasks provides the greatest efficiency and accuracy.

Work direction begins with the system determining the optimal location to pick from or to store an item in based on the rules that the administrator has set up for the system to follow. Once this has been done, the system will enter a work task into a queue of work to be performed which we have termed, the Work Pool.

The system is constantly monitoring the tasks in the Work Pool and the users available to perform the work. An administrator can configure the system to only display certain types of work to certain users, to allow them to see tasks only if they are in (or are not in) a certain area, to see tasks only at a particular level (someone with a pallet jack would not be given a task involving a location at the top of a rack), or even display work only if it belongs to a particular order.

Knowing what work it can display to a particular user is only part of the many evaluations that the system will perform before presenting a task to a user. The system will also look at the priority of the tasks and the proximity of the work to the user. The administrator can specify operating rules dictating the relative importance the system will give to each of these variables.

Once the system has determined the best task to present to the worker, the system will guide them to the appropriate location and will prompt them to enter in confirming information to ensure that the user performed the task correctly. If more than one location is involved in the task, the worker will be directed through the necessary locations based on the path defined by the administrator during the setup of the system.
